Coffee and Pancakes – Sweet

On 26 November I wrote that my friend she was leaving work. She met me at the neighbors house and they made us drinks and we discussed the upcoming weekend. We said we would come by for some crapes in the morning.

When we wound the house down we discussed our plans. The morning of Thanksgiving we were up at the proper time. We went through the motions until we got to the neighbor’s house for coffee and crepes which were delicious. They told us how their Thanksgiving was planned. When we left she was on the trike now.

The ride through the park really quickly. She sent a message to her aunt. I tried to manage the space around her and she didn’t mind but she was also quietly critical of how I was riding. Polo Fields was fine but the trike had problems with various squeaks. She didn’t exactly know the way from 41st to the house. Her aunt had parked as we were pulling up to the house. I parked and got us inside.

Quiet time started around then. I noted that our bedroom was still set up from my trip out there the day before. My brother got set up in the garage. My friend’s aunt helped mom with dinner. I try to stay away. My brother and I sat in the backyard for a short while. When we came back upstairs he was making an appetizer and asked me for help. He foraged some mushrooms on the trip down. Had some Parmesan cheese and bread.

I got my friend’s some Wi-Fi and she sold her book and butterflies to mom. The timeline was dad would take the turkey out and at for the other stuff would get cooked. My friend prepped the brussels sprouts.

By then quiet time it ended. My sister’s family came over at that point. It was around five and there was chaos in the study. I had also made some appetizers. I noticed dad had sat down and went to the study to discover most of the family there. When we sat down the meal was a full house. I ate quietly. I had wanted white wine but got red. The meal went smoothly. We all stayed at the table for the most part. However, we had to be very focused since it would be only a short time before we would get up.

My friend’s aunt indicated she would go so we escorted her out and I wound the room down soon after. I noted that we would not be playing scrabble. When I returned everyone was just sitting around the living room.

The men were checking out I noticed and the ladies spent a lot of time talking. Mom cleaned and dad slept on the loveseat. My friend said she’d go home in the morning. My sister’s family headed home and we all went to bed at around 11.

Friday morning there was a lot of noise around six and my friend was up before me. She made pancakes from potatoes. I waited until dad made coffee before I felt OK. My friend told me she wanted to go to the apartment. I asked my brother if he would take some boxes on Saturday and once we had squared that away she caught a bus.

When quiet time was over I had done a bunch of things and family had gone to do things. My brother had gone to my uncle’s and my little sister was set to arrive. She had to walk to the house because she had left the car last night.

I took the kids on bikes to the coffee shop. I quietly road the trike. They watched the table and I waited in line. My brother showed up randomly – my uncle wasn’t home. We then discussed how the thrift store in Geneva closed.

After that we left for West Sunset. Having the kids was a breath of fresh air. My brother was pleasant. We arrived at the house as my older sister and brother-in-law were arriving. I started quiet time after filling the tires on all of the bikes. I checked with the ladies and we established that my brother and I would go to my little sister's. I gave one of the kids my extra bike.

The youngest managed fine – she could have used a new bike of course. My brother and the boys got too far ahead and missed a turn but it was fine. At my little sister's my brother and brother-in-law went to shoot the breeze in the park. I drink all the whiskey and headed back to mom’s. My older sister indicating quiet time had ended.

Once there my friend signaled that she was returning and my older sister started getting ready for our 730 meet up at at the beach bar the ladies left to get ready.

I quietly prepared for the evening. My brother had indicated he was having leg problems so I gave him my bike. In the meantime my friend and I agreed that mom would need the house quiet.

We all walked except my brother. It was a new bar that you wanted us to go to. The walk was easy and there was only one place to lock up. We saw everyone there and I got ordered drinks. Later we decided to ditch my younger sister with her high school friends and go to the other beach bar across the street. Later we all went back to the house and made sandwiches.

There was noise all night and I got up at six. My friend took over after that. By eight there was coffee and pancakes – sweet potato.

This is an occasional series chronicling my life. This Notebook Analysis series is meant to be contemporaneous piece developed as an agglomeration of my notebook pages. In each of these posts I used my notes to develop my recent thoughts.
