Memo

This is a regular series chronicling my life at regular intervals. This Memo series is meant to be a retrospective of what I have written and experienced. In each of these posts I use my notes in conjunction with memory, mementos and souvenirs to create a snap shot of my life.

Every day I write my thoughts in a notebook and later transfer those thoughts to a new medium in quantity. I often will rewrite these thoughts and post them publicly. I find this repetitive quality in my writing at times confusing. While each step takes place in a given order, I have found the process to elicit a certain feeling of déjà vu. This process of recursion causes the notes I take to look much like what they looked like the first time I wrote them down. However, I have written drafts of papers enough times that this is familiar and the confusion tends to dissipate become less prevalent as I write and rewrite.

I find that it is best to have a consistently deployed and distinct process of writing because no one instance of note taking can be seen as an end product which stands alone. Each step in the writing process has a role in framing the context of my life. I employ a multitude of documentation methods, take plenty of motes and engage in new media. Most of all I have a number of means for recording my thoughts. I have both a notebook and use a computer a lot in the process. I also have several blogs that are both public and private. I use these media to continually develop new pieces in an ongoing process of update.

Reflecting upon how my writing has evolved has allowed me to better understand how it works. Essentially, each step does something different in the process of recording and shaping my life. In the process of writing every day I have focused on how to manage all of entries and documents. My intuition has always said to rewrite and edit my notes regularly but the problem has always been keeping a complete and consistent narrative. Though limited in chronological scope, keeping a notebook allows me an outlet for recording. In contrast to this, keeping a blog provides me with the convenience and utility of the internet. In between I employ standard word processing to continuously review and revise my writing.

This has made my ultimate goal the public posting of a comprehensive discussion of my life and development. Posting my thoughts to this blog provides me with a much needed outlet for this discussion and offering the public an opportunity to contribute to this process is central. This page serves to introduce this discussion and allows the reader a way to interpret each of the posts in the Memo series. Since I began writing my thoughts I have continuously reviewed what I have written and this series has been the end result of that review.
