Background in Common

On 100114 I wrote that I had sent a message to a friend in the afternoon and so just left at five and boarded at PHill.  I had forgotten a pen so didn’t work on the notes.  I got off at Embarcadero and went to CVS.  I went to the bank and got my bike.  I went to Iron Cactus and checked with her again.  I got us some food and when she got in we talked.  The A’s had been behind but they caught up.

We rushed off to get to the fundraiser because we were late.  When we arrived we bumped into a guy I had met before.  The host and hostess allowed us park inside.  There were only a few people—15 about.  We were getting to know each other when the hostess, supervisor and campaign manager began discussing their campaign.  A few people came in during the discussion.

There were a number of people I knew—planners, open streets organizers and transportation directors.  I later discovered that the hostess and I had some work back ground in common.  It was around then that my companion wanted to leave so we said goodbye.  I had made a donation.  As we rode away we talked about social media and agreed to meet up for other events.  I rode the Wiggle to Page and got home at 10 and posted.  I sent a recruiter my resume and was in bed at 12.  My buddy had texted me that he was interested in going with me to the galleries.

Staffers There about Feminism

On 092914 I noted that I had I left the house in the morning on the day before and had traveled to Stern Grove to catch my breath and then to Ocean and Geneva where I messaged my friends who I knew were at Sunday Streets.  When I checked twitter around that time I was surprised to learn that two of my geodata friends wanted me to help plan a Happy Hour.  I rode to Seneca and one of my coworkers randomly contacted me.  When I found her we went looking for my other friends at the Bicycle Coalition table.  I talked to the staffers there about feminism and the Women+Bikes film thing that I had attended.  I talked to the freedom from training wheels lady and then my coworker and I went and had spƤtzle then vfive of us met up at Cumaica to discuss our lives and the days events.  When we departed I introduced one of the volunteers to them.  he was an intersection monitor.  After I while my coworker and I walked to a liquor store on Persia, got some beers and climbed to the water tower in McLaren Park.  We saw a red tailed hawk and sat and looked at the view.

We went to the lake and walked around.  We had our beers and I talked about feminism.  I pointed out that it seemed feminism is not a career path but it is part of everything.  I explained my perspective on literatures and jobs in research.  We walked to Mansell and Brazil and discussed her TA in college.  I had met her a few times—she was really awkward.  We descended to Athens and I got my bike on Persia and then we went to Mission.  I was catching my breath while she went into a bar.  We walked to Monterey and I got a message from the gilr I had met the Friday before but I  blew her off.

We went to the BART station and I dropped off the bike.  We then went to Glen Park Station and had some beers.  We discussed sexism at work.  This was when I learned that a mutual friend, who had been secretly dating her student, had had a kid.  I learned that the relationship hadn’t worked out and that they had broken up.  We walked around Diamond Street and then went to the store and got some foods.  I received a text from my old Long Beach classmate when we boarded with my bike.  I high fived her at Embarcadero and left my bike at the lockers.

I met my friend from Long Bech state and his wife at the Hyatt.  They had just watched the Giants game.  We walked to the Elephant and Castle where we talked about the old days and my job.  They said that they wanted to move to the East Bay.  We played darts and discussed school and what I wanted to do for my career and research.  I learned he was having trouble looking for a job but that she had passed the bar.  I said by to them and stopped by Peet’s to send an email about Wiki’s and geodata.  I took the L and it switched back at Sunset.  I was in bed at 1230.

The Barber was Talky

On 092714 I noted that I left work at 545.  I rode to PHill and though I had plenty of time I was still breathless.  I took the train to Civic.  Some lady put her bike on mine but she got off with me.  I stopped at Wells and was surprised to discover that I would have the amount I wanted on my next paycheck.  I rode Grove to Octavia and climbed to The Page to watch the game.  My coworker and another friend sent messages to each other.  I made plans for Sunday Streets.

The game wasn’t the best but eventually I got closer to the TV as the bar crowded up.  I started talking to the lady sitting next to me.  She was into the Giants as a way to explore her community.  The game was not going great when her friend showed up.  Turned out she was an old classmate my old high school friend.  I asked about people from those day sand she actually remembered them.  They got burritos next door and the lady forced me to eat some of it.  We had a good time watching the Giants lose.  The friend  left and the lady wanted to hang out so we went to the Plough and Stars and talked more.  I had stopped at the corner store so she got there first.  We said bye and I rode home.

On the morning that I wrote this I was up at 10 and went to West Portal for a haircut.  The barber was talky.  I went to Peet’s and read the paper.  I went home and found the Wifi had failed.  I went to Java Beach.

I wrote that I went home after working and discovered I would not be using the internet for the rest of the weekend because AT&T is a horrible company.  I messaged my friend and then sent a text to the lady from the night before.  I had dinner with my mom.  I noted that I wanted to rework my abstract and post it to the AAG for the conference.  I wanted to rewrite my long form resume for Monster and CB.  I also needed to edit the mess in the NA.  I started the laundry.

The Fundraiser

On 092314 I wrote that I left the office at 400 the day before and made it to PHill with a few seconds to spare.  I went to the Embarcadero and transferred to an N and went to Park Chow on Church.  I ate a salad and called a TV correspondent an idiot on Twitter.  I walked to the Orbit room and then sat at the table for the fundraiser and asked what they were doing.  Then I got a beer and sat it out.  A friend from MTA came in with a coworker.  Then an MTA guy who had previously worked at the Bicycle Coalition came in.  There were transportation commissioners, transportation software developers and other transportation activists there too.  A Bicycle Coalition staffer was one of the organizers but the director for the Tenants Union, Walk SF and the League of Conservation Voters also spoke.  I spoke to a planner I knew through the Car Free List Serve about planning and GIS.  My buddy stopped by but pretty quickly left for the Bike Advisory Committee meeting.  I saw some people make big donatioins.

Later I met a lawyer and a guy from Public Bikes.  I also met a supporter and my old bike party friends were all there in the back together.  My friend from the MTA left separate but his friend from work left with my friend from BART for another bar.  I left too after the Giants made a few runs.  At Home I was stuck on the game and wasn’t really able to function.

Slacking and Napping

On 092114 I wrote that I had finished writing at Park Chow and went to Shotwell’s though I had been interested in going to Sycamore.  The Giants were close but didn’t do it since Crawford flied out.  My buddy came in a moment later.  He had had tacos and I thought that he had been working on his bike but instead had been slacking and napping.  He said he had gone out with an old friend from out of town but it wasn’t a lot of fun because it was a work party.  We drank sour beer and laughed at a lot of stuff.  My coworker and I sent some funny texts to one another.  We left a little later after talking about the women and film in biking thing.

On the morning that I wrote this I was up at 11 and went to Java Beach.  The barista and I were cute with each other about cycling and I asked her if she wanted to ride my extra bike.  She said to check back in a week.  I rode home to enjoy the air and then rode to Westlake where my buddy met back up and set out to visit Pacifica.  I suggested a ride to Sharpe’s Park Bl.  Then we rode through Rockaway and he went surfing.  I sat and read the paper.  Later we rode up San Pedro Mountain road but couldn’t find the route to Devil’s slide.  We gave up and rode skyline from the center of Pacifica.  I suggested we go to Westmoor but we went down 35 to Lake Merced instead.  We agreed to check in later in the week.  I rode home and watered the grass and then went to Celia’s.  I talked to bartender a bit and went home.

Dreary in SF Sometimes

On 092014 I wrote that the day before I rode to PHill.  At the station I was concerned about leaving the window at home open.  At Montgomery I rode my bike to Macy’s.  There were huge excavators out front on Stockton.  I went upstairs and got some pants.  I went to Sketchers and got shoes.  I told the sales girl there about work and she thought I should let people work know that I don't get along with them.  I told her that I appreciated her insight but would not be taking it.  I went to H and M and then had a near altercation with a car that was blocking a crosswalk.

I got on the bike and rode to Chihuahua and then to the Page.  My cowroker had been texting about work.  He sent me a picture of the San Bruno devastation.  I met a lot of ladies at the bar and I noted that they all had the same quality.  It can be so dreary in SF sometimes.  The Giants lost.  I got home at something like 1130 and was in bed at 100a.

On the day that I wrote this I was up at 930 and went to Java Beach.  The Barista was making food and she stuck her tongue out at me.  There was some new girl in her place at the counter.  I texted a friend about the article in the Chronicle about San Bruno he never got back to me.  I went home and napped a lot.  At some point I started my chores.  I also forgot to water the lawn.  I had some food and did laundry.  I didn’t have the right cleaning stuff and used bleach.

Later I put my clothes away and piled my papers just right.  I tweeted an article about car sharing to and connected with a friend from Palo Alto on Facebook.  She responded with a tweet indicating that she had read it.  I noted that I have a lot of conflicting feelings for her.  I made plans with my buddy but we had a bit of mis-communication.  I rode to Park Chow then.  The Giants were about to slip out of the pennant.

Bike Mechanic Superhero

On 091914 I left work at the normal time at 415 and took my time stopping at Heather Farm Park to enjoy the fresh air.  I parked at PHill and took the train to Embarcadero.  I worked on my notes and finished the paper.  I got my bike and went to Embarcadero.  My seat shifted again.  I got off and walked to the taqueria at 4th and Townsend.  I saw the Sports Basement marketing director and a staffer was at the Bicycle Coalition table.  I was having a hard time with the temperature but it was the ride and not the room.

I had caught up with a bunch of people I knew and others when my buddy came in.  We interacted with a friend from Bike Party.  He got a bit to eat and I sat down.  The first film was a montage by a coalition intern about her cross-country tour.  The second was about a bike mechanic superhero who kept meeting the same type of guys and had bad dreams.

Afterwards I met some friends and made introductions between new friends and some whom I hadn’t interacted in years.  My buddy I got to know some friends from YPT and Bike Party.  I milked the crowd for what it was worth.  I talked to a photographer for Nutcase—but gravitated back to my friend from Bike Party again.  She and I connected via Twitter.

Shaun and I left and went to Schmitt’s.  We talked about stuff—the films, trips on bikes etc.  I rode down Shotwell to 19th and then down Capp to 18th and then somehow to Church and up the Wiggle.  I passed a girl neat Cole and Page and rode home.  I noted that I was still cleaning the room.  I posted and worked out my notes.  I was asleep at 1 in the morning.  I noted that connecting with all the ladies a the film showing was really productive in light of the day’s breakthroughs at work.

On the morning of the day that I wrote this I noted that I had gotten up a half an hour late but missed a bus and had coffee on Bancroft so was an hour late.

Bike Party PHill

On 091414 I sent a message to my friends when I got out of the office and stopped by Safeway on the way to PHill.  The guys were there and I was surprised to see others that I knew.  I dumped my newspaper and took in the evening air as everyone arrived.  Bike Party left on Coggins and went to PHill park via PHill drive.  There were kooky things there and a little league team.  We then rode around Buchanan field and I met come locals.  At the end of the ride I left with a friend and rode with several Bike Partiers to North Concord.  There were more people from the ride on the train as I rode back to Civic Center.  I went to the Page then and had a couple of beers.  I went to bed at around 1 or 2.

The morning of the next day I got up at 930 and went to Java Beach.  The barista made comments about bikes and I sat and people watched.  I lady sat next to me and it turned out that she was at the Page the night before for a going away party.  I told her and her friend about Tour de Fat.

I went to Lindley Meadow and parked my bike.  Bike Partiers were working the valet.  I walked around.  I started to feel shaky so I got water.  I bumped into still more Bike Partiers on the way—organizers this time.  I sat down with some ladies on a red flannel sheet and they asked about my Geography is Cool t-shirt.  One of them had apparently dated a Geography professor I knew.  The owner of the blanket left us and I talked with the other lady about the city before I went for more water.  I felt hungover.  I looked at the second stage and saw more Bike Party organizers talking.  Then I talked to Valet people and checked out the chainsaw juggler.  I noted that there was no Whiskydrome.

I went back to red flannel sheet and no one was there so I lay down and tried to settle my stomach.  I looked up about ten minutes later to discover my best buddies from Bike Party sitting next to me.  Later more of the dame started showing up.  We talked about mutual friends and I met new people.  I remember talking at length about feminism.  I was feeling worthless.  I tried to talk to the birthday party sitting next to us and I also noted that there were a lot of CFHH people.  In fact I later discovered that the lady who owned the red flannel sheet was connected to all of these people.  I even saw a few people form East Bay Bike Party.  I got up for water one more time and then went home where I ate and started my recovery.  I had done some laundry so started putting it away.

After Napping I went to Celia’s and discovered that a girl I had seen at Java Beach that morning was behind the bar.  I also met some locals and some new people.  I also talked to the regulars—one of which I had met before.  We talked at length about biking in Marin and he railed on and on about bad cyclists.  Susan kicked us out at 1015 and I went home and watched Tropic Thunder till around 2.

On the morning that I wrote this I was up at 930 and went to Java Beach.  The barista asked about bikes again and I noted that I needed to make plans with her.  I also noted that an old coworker had stopped in—this time with her boyfriend.  I went home to enjoy the air in the patio for a bit and then rode to the Panhandle and was tired when I got to Fulton.  I rode back to Central and then to McAllister.  I saw some of the same friends I had been with all weekend at Sunday Streets on Buchanan.  I parked on Divis and went to Abir.  I then walked to Scott and looked at curios.  I bought a small box and started to tweet.  I walked into the park and took in the view in the warm air and then walked to Fillmore.  I was live tweeting at this point.  I walked to Geary and saw a couple of other friends.  I was winded at the baseball fields and I went back via Pierce.  I looked at the tables on Fulton and saw The ThinkWalks guy.  I went to Abir and watched the game and tweeted.  About an hour later I walked to Green Chiles and got a big meal and talked to a girl name Genevieve.  I walked to the Panhandle and took in the evening air for a bit and then got my bike.  I rode to the Page to have a beer and saw the bouncers.  They were watching the Niners game.  At that point I went to Embarcadero.  I took the N home.

Three Flights of Steps

This is the first of two posts where, on 083114, I didn’t have my notebook and so wrote my notes for the day into cards that I sent to people.

When I got off work the Friday before I carried the bike up three flights of steps at PHill and was out of breath.  At Civic Center I rode the bike down 7th to Folsom locked up and ordered a sandwich at Radius CafĆ© and sat down to wait for some Twitter friends for #BAUHH.  I got a beer and went out back with them.  Several people came in while I was waiting.  We talked for a while and I had another beer.

I left a bit later and went to the Page Bar.  There I met people—cyclists and smiles.  I had been watching the Giants when I met Madeleine.  She was named after the character in the book.  Later I got a business card from some acoustic engineers named Bob and Joe.  The Giants won.

I noted later that I was happy to meet so many interesting people that night.  I left around 1030 about 45 minutes after the game ended.  The next morning I was up at 930 and went to Java Beach.  My old coworker came in with her sister and I told her about work.  I met a cartoonist on the way out.  At home I complained to the parents about having to drive them to a wedding but I ended up doing it.  They said they were late.  Dad flipped out about the traffic on 19th but chilled out after that.  I dropped them at Steiner and Green and was not thrilled about the ordeal.  Mom sent a message later to say they were early.

When I got home from the wedding I got my bike and went to Swell to replace my rear cassette.  Later I went to Mojo to get it adjusted and learned my derailleur and hanger were bent.  I spent a lot of money.  I then rode to Caltrain and after inhaling a taco I caught a train to Palo Alto.  Some guy on the train recommended a shitty bar but I went to Scotty’s instead.  The Giant’s won and I had a salad.  I took the train home and went to the Uptown.  The bartender and I made jokes and I talked to some guy about feminism and hegemony.

On the morning that I wrote this I went to Java Beach and got to talk a group of interesting people.  I finished the paper and went home.  I talked to dad about my finances, rode to Best Buy and then ended up at Momi Toby’s.  I had purchased some cards on the way because I didn’t have my notebook.  I wrote the entirety of the story above onto them and addressed them to some close friends.  I also had tea and waited to hear from my buddy.

I finished writing around 7 o’clock and took the bike up California to meet her at work.  They have wifi there.  We went to eat at Big 4 and I told her about my life and she told me about hers.  We sat at the bar there for a while.  Her coworkers were nice and we had great food.  We went to the Tonga room then, which is interesting.  The guard at the door said that we were just in time for the rain.  We ordered PiƱa Coladas and spent a lot of time crowd watching.  There were a  lot of young people.  Later we went to Edinburgh Castle.  I rode home after she said I should hang out with her and her brother the next day and was in bed at 2am.

Siblings Are Cute

This is the first of two posts where, on 083114, I didn’t have my notebook and so wrote my notes for the day into cards that I sent to people.

I was up at 930 and made it to the bridge by 11.  I sent a text message to a friend and her brother from Marin.  They hadn’t replied by the time I made it to Sausalito.  I read the paper and had coffee.  In time I was back on Bridgeway.  At Blythdale I climbed Camino Alto to the other side.  I took a break at the top.  I noted that Corte Madera is beautiful.  I stopped in Larkspur to catch my breath and my buddy sent me a message and it turned out that she was meeting her brother in SF.  I went to Larkspur Ferry and made the boat fine.  There was a game on and a couple of beautiful sisters.

When I got off the boat I put the bike in storage and went to her house and waited for her brother.  She said my attitude about my ex- was poor.  We get along but at times the siblings disappear into their own world.  We caught a 31 to the Ferries and went to Hog and something.  We had oysters and grilled cheese sandwiches.  It was beautiful out.  We had ice cream.  Siblings are cute.

We walked to 15 Romalo and then went to Polk Street.  Most of it was tedious because I was tired but it was alright.  I really didn’t want to engage the girl I was interested in because I felt that she was so busy.  I left them at around 10 and went home on the N.  I closed my eyes and missed at least 10 blocks.  I walked home and was asleep at 12.
