The Crossings at Sunrise

On May 27th I wrote that when I left the coffee shop I rode for about 15 minutes. I had wanted to stop because of the rain as I was going over Nimbus but it wasn’t necessary but I did have to stop at Sunrise, where there are three bridges, to get water. One of the crossings at Sunrise is directly on the river and the channel was full. The other two crossings are much higher.

I tried to get some mileage after that but found the headwinds to be overpowering. I visited Rancho Cordova’s Hagan Park and zoomed through Riverbend.  By then I have stopped paying attention to where I was because my old classmate and planned to meet for lunch. I stayed on the levees and only stopped once to catch my breath on the way to Watt Ave.

I took a lot of photos as I rode over West Bridge.  I then crossed under the railroad tracks at 64th and passed a park on M. I got a little lost at 33rd on my way to Stockton.  FInally, I rode X Street to Yosemite. Broadway was right there.

My old classmate was drinking a beer while waiting. We both got a taco but mine were small. Afterwards we were stuffed so we went to a park and then to a bar. The name was Elixir. We played a game of foosball and he won both times.

My host showed up with his partner on foldable bikes then.  My old classmate told us that he was going to a bookstore so we hung out for a bit and then the three of us left.  At my host’s place we had pizza and watched Sorry to Bother You.  There were martinis.

In the morning of the day that I wrote this I awoke refreshed and made all of my host’s coffee. We ate a quiche and when we were done I rode 17th to Land Park and paid old classmate a visit. He made coffee and we talked about relationships. He was writing up his last report for grad school. Graduation was coming up.

When I said goodbye I rode to the station. I couldn’t figure out where to eat so just went to Starbucks before boarding. I met a guy on the train from Virginia who did federal transit stuff.

It was a good stay.

Auburn Folsom Road

On May 25 I wrote that I was not able to stay awake past a certain point the night before. I slept until 530 and slept some more until 930. Then I went to the buffet and returned to the room. It was obviously a surplus room – bottom floor, in the corner, only one window. The fixtures didn’t work well but everything was good.

I had had a good stay and left late. I rode under the freeway on Walsh and looked around for a coffee shop but all I found was a subpar place.

When I was done at the cafĂ©, I rode to the high school stadium and along the Newcastle Canal to the Overlook Park. I went over to real Health Park and I want to the China Bar trail. I asked a state worker about the maps but she didn’t know.

I took the canal out to Arroyo but had trouble with the South Canal so moved onto Shirland Tract. From there I considered Manhattan bar but instead went to a street called Burgard. However the powerlines I thought I would follow were barred so I had to climb back up to Bhirland. I investigated that spot from the other side by riding to out Auburn Folsom Road where I saw a sheriff taking information from people in a fender bender.

I took Rattlesnake to Boom Run and saw the powerlines there. I remember the name of one place was called Houck Investments. I also looked at the properties that backed up on Manhattan Bar.

I returned to Rattlesnake. South Canal rushes there. I had been passed by two cyclists at this point. I rode on to Newcastle and took Hector from there.

I found a driveway that connected me to another way named Canal and wandered past some houses. I saw a shiny water tower off King which had some trails to connect me to Lakeside and finally Horseshoe Bar.

From there I had to go to Prospect but I skipped going that way because I thought there was a way to gain access to the gated community. However, I ended up on the edge of the lake.  I took the horse trails with the intent of continuing to Beeks Bight but I quite because the trails sucked and the lake was too high. I cut out and took Lomita.

I went down to Eden Rock at Auburn Folsom Road to try to access the state land but the Two Lakes gated property was barred. I also noted that the equestrian area was also barred. However, I went to the equestrian staging area and entered Vogel Valley Road.

From there I accessed all of the routes that I knew in the park. I went to Granite Bay horse staging area and took the path I am new to the neighborhood next door. Then I descended to the high school.

After that I discovered that the levies were “closed” but this was not true and I should have just ignored the signs. From there I went to Beall’s Point and was totally tired.  I texted an acquaintance after I checked into my hotel and we hung out at Fat Rabbit and had dinner.
