On the 13th of January I wrote that the Thursday night previously I had gone to bed probably right after getting home. The next morning I want to Geo Breakfast. I was late having gotten up at 8:15 so all the geographers were already there.
The person I came for had seen my tweets and remembered which was nice because I thought that I had tweeted to her too late. We mostly stayed away from discussions of our geography careers. I had come to realize that this was likely because we all wear so many hats. The methods guy only just remembered me. The visualizations lady was new to me. I spoke about how we would eventually have GIS at my job site.
They had coffee already but I had to order. I mentioned the twitter celebrities that are often there. A guy with a new startup came in after we ordered but we all ate at the same time. He told us about his company and the he talked to the methods guy about data visualization. The visualizations lady thought that was cool.
We spoke about informal housing in Silicon Valley. One of them worked at the big tech company and when she finished headed off to board a tech bus. She had thrown in a few dollars to help me because I was out of cash.
I rode my bike to work and when I was at my desk I had very little time before I had to go to a forum. The first session was interesting. I sat through the whole thing and then spoke to a GIS guy on my way out. I had to my desk and returned for the next session.
After that I interacted with an college classmate. He worked nearby and had agreed to attend the bike party in the east bay with me. I ate my sandwich while listening to the last discussion at the forum. We broke into groups and I later there was a discussion facilitated by the director.
After that I met my college classmate in the plaza and we went to Civic Center. I stopped by the happy hour to see my coworkers at the post forum mixer. It was fantastic. Faces I had known but didn’t interact with sat across from me and I was really excited about that. I got to know what type of coworkers better but I needed to go to bike party. I grabbed a taco and then headed to the East Bay. I met a Geo breakfast person on the train.
I fetched my old college classmate and went to Bike Party. The ride went to International and migrated to Foothill. I got beer on the way. I interacted with my old classmate on the way through Fruitvale. I noted how similar it was to Santa Ana. He said the Marisco‘s at a place there were terrible.
The bike party headed to Fruitvale and Dimond Park and I gave my old classmate a beer. I also walked around. I noted some obvious self-selection amongst the groups. We watched frisbee throwing in the dark. I had a doughnut.
After that we rode to MacArthur across to 23rd and up foothill past San Antonio. On the way I spoke to the guys. We rode to El Embarcadero and then up grand to Piedmont. I remember passing the flag and asking people if they knew where they were going.
We went up 40th and then zigzagged on between Oakland and Berkeley to get to Sacramento street. I took the train with a group of friends. I left Civic Center and went straight to bed.

To The Dutch Windmill
On 7 January I wrote that my neighbors were at the Zeitgeist but I didn’t see them. I interacted with a guy I kne from a local non profit. I went to discount and spent a lot of money on hardware and realized I was late for an acquaintance’s birthday bike ride. I ran home with my loot. One of the revelers saw me because he was driving by.
At the apartment my friend agreed that we would just head out. I grabbed my stuff and a short layered while later quiet time ended. We got on the bikes and quietly road up to go find one of the guys. Both had sent us the text messages saying to go to the Dutch Windmill.
My friend got frustrated a couple of times but it was no problem. When we got there the guys and a bunch of others were with the birthday girl. I saw some people I rarely see. Later even more showed up came through.
We rode up JFK to Fell and over to Divisadero to Emporium. We discovered we couldn’t go inside it was a bit too noisy. I saw a guy I knew from Bike Party who is having the same problem. We waited for a couple of people we knew and then went home.
My friend had to stop at Duboce for a bit and then we unloaded at the apartment. She needed time then so I took over for two hours and she went to see her old roommate - who, it turned out had big news.
When my friend returned she wound the house down and I made a meal. After that we took time by our selves for about an hour and then watched Blade Runner.

Announcing the New Year
On 2 January I wrote that on the morning of New Year’s eve day my friend was going to meet her old coworkers. I noticed I was low but thought it was all of the parties. She had done everything so help me out of the house. She went to a coffee shop to meet one of them and I went to another one. She told me they were going to meet someone else in Berkeley.
Mom texted that they would make us dinner. I walked to Dolores Park. Someone had a GSD. The big slides are really noisy. I played the giant xylophone, interacted with a couple of nice ladies and a well known bike advocate was there. I had a meal at the picnic tables where I voiced my opinion.
I quietly walked to the apartment. My friend had shown up a bit later and we ate the kale. After that we took two hours to leave. I had the bikes ready to go at four. The ride through the park was great but I once again was achy. She was really nice about it.
At the house she went upstairs and I unpacked. I got the whole room set up. She was concerned but I reassured her. The living room was kind of noisy when I got upstairs. Dinner was an hour later.
By 630 we were done and taking it easy in the living room. I never do dishes. My friend and I had an easy time winding down and sat in the living room hanging out. We left on our bikes around nine and stopped at the Safeway and then the apartment to change.
After that we rode to an acquaintance’s house. They had us bring our bikes in and another acquaintance had joined us. We ate fondue, talked and drank bubbly. Our host kept announcing the new year. After midnight we ate at Dutch Baby and then retired to the living room. I was frustrated about lingering too long. Later we rode to Sanchez. The ride was long but not unpleasant. We got home at 2:30. Dad and mom were both up.
