I wrote that I got a text from Katie and
finished up with my edit. I caught
various buses and had a taco. I made a
conversation at Bocce and got to Cobbs exactly on time. I didn’t know what the show was and that was
sort of a gaffe but I got into the swing of things. The show was great. I had a couple of drinks and when it was time
to settle I collected dollars and paid.
We said bye to Jen and Justin. There were two others but Katie didn’t really
know them. We went to Visuvio and Dave
was working. Later we went to the HiLo
and Christian was there. I noted that
she had dumped him but not really.
I wrote that I took the drunk bus
home. I noted that it is a bad bad bus.
I then wrote that the next day I got up
a little late but had enough time to get to San Rafael to meet Nicole. My Clipper Card worked on GGT. We had crepes and she told me about beer
party with her friend Jen.
We rushed over to the MTC and saw
“Waiting for Godot” and I was transfixed.
It was new and interesting. I
wrote that so much of it was classic and almost predictable but I watched it
closely. I noted that every scene had a
certain amount of inevitability to it.
We went to dinner: Sol Food. I noted that it was good but I ate too
much. I had the pok and she had the
shrimp. We went to my house the wrong
way. She spent the night and I had a
good sleep—we were asleep at 930. I made
lunch, did laundry and worked on my thesis.
In the mooring I had to ride and forgot
my notebook. I made good time
anyway. I caught the train and at the
Safeway rotunda on Bancroft Fleetwood Mac was playing. I got texts from Katie and Nicole. I tried to spend the rest of the day in
line. I was glad I had written my notes
on the Friday before. I reread and
started editing by 830. It took me about
an hour to get into it.
I separated out comments that were
asides and by 11 after we had gone on a walk I gave James my “loaner card” and
Brian started talking to Joel about segments and features. I noted that segments should not be linked
geo spatially not using GasView segments.
Joel was concerned about duplicate records but Brian explained that
those are piles of shapes. They spoke
about Nathan and data dumps.
They went on to discuss approximations
since they were certain how the data would be taken. They talked about dumbing down the data. However, they need a PODS to PSEP output. Brian was under the impression that they
could prepare or process it. Later I
asked Joel about our processes and he reiterated David’s contention that
Intrepid ought to Segments. I concluded
that this should be planned out. He also
explained that the segments change.
I wrote that I was worried about asking
for too much or showing my ignorance to David.
I noted that I thought I should worry about this less. I did know that I had to do something because
I had reached the limits of the data.
Joel explained how or why segments
change via splitting. Some of the
reasons included class, specifications and/or replacement. He said that the feature is determined
according to specifications. If all the
fields on adjacent pieces of pip are the same then they are the same feature
and potentially the same segment.
When David left he checked with me and I
told him I would email him. However, I
concluded I should hold off on that. I
learned a little about joins in access.
At 130 I was rereading my latest edit
and trying to conceptualize what I was doing.
I wrote that each query should include mile points and segments. I also was thinking about what goes in to the
analysis; what is linked; what is compared; and what the final output is.
I wrote about what David called “static
points” and noted that this was important.
I also noted that I was interested in relationships and attributes in
addition to segments and features. I
then hypothesized a set of tables on Gasview, one from Intrepid and one an
RC. Then I idealized what each datasets’
relationship to a supposed reality was and the trail that made them. I then listed out the headers each had of
might have. I then itemized the analyses
which I had done was doing and what I wanted to do.
I noted that the integrity dataset
needed segments and that PSEP needs features.
However, I noted that I would have been trying to figure out what the
final output would be. I was conflicted
over what the output would look like.
For instance I noted that I would keep making a spot which is the focus
of arrows. I wrote Join and mash
up. I did a PSEP to GV analysis and a GV
to Intrepid analysis but still wanted to do something with segments, PFL’s and
intrepid.
I noted that the next page was a
clarification of these diagrams. I noted
that this one explained what each analysis represented and that the PSEP to GV
analysis was pairs, splits and omissions.
I noted that the GVINT had appended segments and overlap. I then noted that a GVINT comparison would
have to match up with the PFL and then noted I would have to join the GV items
to the INT features. Finally, I wrote
that the PSEP data would have to be included.
I noted that the final page said that
after my walk I went through my notes. I
noted several things. I needed to talk
to David about new data; I had established the meaning of segments and
features; I had established what goes into analysis, common fields, points of
comparison, outcomes deliverables and protocols; and finally I had established
what the RC would look like. I was
having trouble with route 123.
I wrote that I left then around 4 and
got a flat tire about a quarter way to PHill.
I made it to Bancroft and had to walk.
Karl from FES offered to help but I knew I would be later so
declined. I left the bike at PHill and
met Nicole at Momi Toby for beers. We
then walked to Vets memorial looking at restaurants. Ben and I talked on the phone and we were
perfectly on time. The shoe was the Moth
and it was good. It was about salvation
and much of it was sad. Afterward we
went to Chez Mamman for Crepes. I
boarded the N after standing near the stairwell watching Nicole descend through
muni to BART. I fell asleep on the train
but didn’t want to. I walked home and
organized the tires and levers for the morning.
On the morning that I wrote this I
didn’t get up till late and then walked to the L and realized that I could have
taken the express. Later I got coffee
and hopped the BART train around 730. At
PHill I changed my tire at 830 and made it to work by nine. I sat down and developed some tables for
David for when he got back from a meeting.
I noted that we talked and he agreed
that I would be mixing GV and PSEP data and he said that all the records should
be filled out using rules. I noted that
I needed protocols for the GV to PSEP mix mash-up. He said that he understood that there would
be issues there and I was pleased with this.
I showed him how the output would be a feature data set and he agreed. I couldn’t get to the queries and data
sources through and that was frustrating.
I noted that the entry that I had
written had taken a long time to write.
The table design went for a long time.
I had a meeting till 10. I also
spilled coffee on myself. Later I
reenrolled in classes at school and started to fill out paper paperwork. I went to fill my tire up.
This is series chronicles my life at regular intervals. This Memo series is meant to be a retrospective of
what I have written and experienced. In each of these posts I use my notes in
conjunction with memory, mementos and souvenirs to create a snap shot of my
life.
