When it Called Back

I noted that I was trying to keep things together the day before.  I managed though.  I hopped the 29 late.  I was interacting with Nicole on the ride and I caught up to one another at Geneva.  She met me on the bus. We got off at Vienna and walked around looking for Colman Advocates.  We walked up Brazil and entered McLaren Park.  We followed the path up the back of residences.  I noted that the neighborhood is eerie near the park but its nicer one you get inside.  We went to the water tower and she took photos.

We went to the lake and looked around then we walked down Peru to Silver via Silliman and Oxford.  We crossed the Freeway and entered St Mary’s Park and climbed up above the garden near the projects.  She kept asking whether there was still a creek because the nature trails all indicated that there had been.  I tried to play it off but eventually she said there wasn’t.

We climbed up behind the baseball diamond and crossed Crescent to to get to Holly.  That park is one of the nicer ones.  It had no backyards.  We walked down Cortland and decided to have lunch.  We found a café and I had a blintz and she a sandwich.

We looked at the bike shop and then went over to Virginia.  I made bird calls to a dove and Nicole started referring to it as my friend when it called back.  We went to Presita Park and crossed Chavez on Folsom and went to Philz to have coffee and a cookie.  Then we went to a bike shop near Shotwell and saw some bike polo.  Then we went to the Uptown and saw Dan who was filling in.  There was a party for Isaac and we ate some of the food.  We saw Ramon.  I noted that Nicole and other ladies were kind of into me.  We then went to Schmitt’s and then caught a BART Train to her car and visited CVS on the way to her house.  We watched office space.

On the morning I wrote this I woke up at 11 and we went to the Avenue.  We had coffee and read the paper at Don’t be Latte.  She then drove me home.  I wrote that the beach was crowded.  We made plans for Wednesday.  I went in and read the economist with the parents.  I noted that I had been feeling funny all day.  I read my email and napped.  I wrote that I started packing for going to work a day early.  I had dinner with the parents and left for Walnut Creek.  The room was nice and I bought juice.  Nicole said she was thinking about fixing her bike.

I Made a Chart.

I wrote that the day before I worked until 530 and made the 602.  I was preoccupied with eliminating the outliers on the macro graphic.  I was a little preoccupied with 1502-08 and others like it but when Joel returned at 415 or 425 I decided to just send it to David.  The ride to PHill was hurried and I was rather tired.  However, I managed well.  There was a snark on the trail and I carried the bike upstairs.  I rearranged the stuff on the train when I got on at PHill at 432.  I noted that Powell had been crowded around 515 but it is the other way around an hour later.  Hence I had no problem getting through the tunnels.

I went to Sears and returned the pants.  I taught the cashier some Chinese: how to say hurry up.  I rode up the hill and used the sidewalk.  I though at the time that the bigger pannier was being a problem witih jumping curbs.  One in George Town it had fallen off.

At Nicole’s place she was liteneing to NPR and preparing chicken tacos.  I basically explained my place in the hierarchy at work and the economics of Gas.  Nicole told me about work.  We had delicious food.  I drank too much.  We watched American Dad.  I noted that I hated to get up in the morning.

The day that I wrote this I made it to Starbucks by 507 and to BART by 511 with a paper.  The train had been consistently a minute late.  I logged on and was ready for the day by the time the tailboard had begun.  I noted that David mentioned our efforts in the meeting—length issues.  Returning to the office I started looking into PODS.  I needed a log on and open and manipulate the MAOP export.  I also noted that I needed to send more lines to David and Rick.

I made a chart:

                   Upload                     Resolution
                        ^                                  ^
PFLsßàLengthßàPODSßàLengthßàGasView

I noted that David came by to talk to me about PSEP.  He said he was going to look over it and then move forward.  He also said he would put me in touch with Paulino.  He had said not to talk to him and I said as much.  However, I also noted that I felt like I needed to revisit the issue.  I noted that Joel gave me a macro for it and that I needed to review it.

I logged into PODS (Intrepid).  I then tried to export.

I wrote that the two that I was using needed some consideration.  I was thinking that I needed to think about what I needed.  I noted that I was getting lines to compare, develop the PSEP macro, make charts and develop queries.  I thought I needed to see PODS and the MAOP export as helping to facilitate these things.  I was contemplating how to use PODS and what it would do for my other work.  I was then trying to understand what the export would do for me.  I then sketched out what I thought the macro would do to compare the two datasets (PODS and GV) and how the data would be analyzed.

I then contemplated my analysis of the MAOP data against the GV data to make certain that our production was up to snuff.  I then looked at certain groupings of data for the comparison.  I also considered how this would look from the perspective of Joel’s data.  Apparently, there was a manual procedure as well as a macro guided one.  During this period I had a lot of trouble with lines labeled 302*.  I was also very focused on the PSEP macro that David had asked for but wasn’t certain how to make it happen.  David had asked about it and I sent an email using my notes.  I noted that I didn’t have any more food in my cubicle and Ian gave me some.  I went back to the MAOP to GV comparisons and identified issues.

I read my notes for what is basically a length comparison of MAOP to GV and discovered that I had made some mistakes.  Then I wrote that I would move on to review my work on PSEP after lunch.  I asked Mat around then for direction and he said that Gordon was doing stuff on it.  He said that linear referencing was better than the way he would do it.  I had developed a “working rule” where comparison of data between versions would be based entirely upon length but I knew that the specs for each segment or feature would have to be involved.

I went on to write that the system would identify specs in the first segment based upon my hierarchy and look for items with reflect that in the PODS data.  Then the length may be compared.  I noted, however, that I wasn’t certain how the output would look since the process is fraught by conflicting ontologies.

I started a rewrite of my discussion of the MAOP to GV comparison and showed a graphic to David.  He gave me some feedback on what I didn’t need to pursue and said that when I was done I would have what he would need to continue.  I sent him and Joel my notes.  Joel said that there would be bad data in the intrepid locations and that this was alright.

I wrote down information for Barlow’s equation and the relevant CFR code.  I remember that Joel had explained a lot of this to me.

I wrote a bunch of notes and VB code then about how to build the macro that I wanted.  I also made notes about how to test a macro.  I noted that my version of the macro wasn’t working and why.

Collected Dollars and Paid

I wrote that I got a text from Katie and finished up with my edit.  I caught various buses and had a taco.  I made a conversation at Bocce and got to Cobbs exactly on time.  I didn’t know what the show was and that was sort of a gaffe but I got into the swing of things.  The show was great.  I had a couple of drinks and when it was time to settle I collected dollars and paid.

We said bye to Jen and Justin.  There were two others but Katie didn’t really know them.  We went to Visuvio and Dave was working.  Later we went to the HiLo and Christian was there.  I noted that she had dumped him but not really.

I wrote that I took the drunk bus home.  I noted that it is a bad bad bus.

I then wrote that the next day I got up a little late but had enough time to get to San Rafael to meet Nicole.  My Clipper Card worked on GGT.  We had crepes and she told me about beer party with her friend Jen.

We rushed over to the MTC and saw “Waiting for Godot” and I was transfixed.  It was new and interesting.  I wrote that so much of it was classic and almost predictable but I watched it closely.  I noted that every scene had a certain amount of inevitability to it.

We went to dinner: Sol Food.  I noted that it was good but I ate too much.  I had the pok and she had the shrimp.  We went to my house the wrong way.  She spent the night and I had a good sleep—we were asleep at 930.  I made lunch, did laundry and worked on my thesis.

In the mooring I had to ride and forgot my notebook.  I made good time anyway.  I caught the train and at the Safeway rotunda on Bancroft Fleetwood Mac was playing.  I got texts from Katie and Nicole.  I tried to spend the rest of the day in line.  I was glad I had written my notes on the Friday before.  I reread and started editing by 830.  It took me about an hour to get into it.

I separated out comments that were asides and by 11 after we had gone on a walk I gave James my “loaner card” and Brian started talking to Joel about segments and features.  I noted that segments should not be linked geo spatially not using GasView segments.  Joel was concerned about duplicate records but Brian explained that those are piles of shapes.  They spoke about Nathan and data dumps.

They went on to discuss approximations since they were certain how the data would be taken.  They talked about dumbing down the data.  However, they need a PODS to PSEP output.  Brian was under the impression that they could prepare or process it.  Later I asked Joel about our processes and he reiterated David’s contention that Intrepid ought to Segments.  I concluded that this should be planned out.  He also explained that the segments change.

I wrote that I was worried about asking for too much or showing my ignorance to David.  I noted that I thought I should worry about this less.  I did know that I had to do something because I had reached the limits of the data.

Joel explained how or why segments change via splitting.  Some of the reasons included class, specifications and/or replacement.  He said that the feature is determined according to specifications.  If all the fields on adjacent pieces of pip are the same then they are the same feature and potentially the same segment.

When David left he checked with me and I told him I would email him.  However, I concluded I should hold off on that.  I learned a little about joins in access.

At 130 I was rereading my latest edit and trying to conceptualize what I was doing.  I wrote that each query should include mile points and segments.  I also was thinking about what goes in to the analysis; what is linked; what is compared; and what the final output is.

I wrote about what David called “static points” and noted that this was important.  I also noted that I was interested in relationships and attributes in addition to segments and features.  I then hypothesized a set of tables on Gasview, one from Intrepid and one an RC.  Then I idealized what each datasets’ relationship to a supposed reality was and the trail that made them.  I then listed out the headers each had of might have.  I then itemized the analyses which I had done was doing and what I wanted to do.

I noted that the integrity dataset needed segments and that PSEP needs features.  However, I noted that I would have been trying to figure out what the final output would be.  I was conflicted over what the output would look like.  For instance I noted that I would keep making a spot which is the focus of arrows.  I wrote Join and mash up.  I did a PSEP to GV analysis and a GV to Intrepid analysis but still wanted to do something with segments, PFL’s and intrepid.

I noted that the next page was a clarification of these diagrams.  I noted that this one explained what each analysis represented and that the PSEP to GV analysis was pairs, splits and omissions.  I noted that the GVINT had appended segments and overlap.  I then noted that a GVINT comparison would have to match up with the PFL and then noted I would have to join the GV items to the INT features.  Finally, I wrote that the PSEP data would have to be included.

I noted that the final page said that after my walk I went through my notes.  I noted several things.  I needed to talk to David about new data; I had established the meaning of segments and features; I had established what goes into analysis, common fields, points of comparison, outcomes deliverables and protocols; and finally I had established what the RC would look like.  I was having trouble with route 123.

I wrote that I left then around 4 and got a flat tire about a quarter way to PHill.  I made it to Bancroft and had to walk.  Karl from FES offered to help but I knew I would be later so declined.  I left the bike at PHill and met Nicole at Momi Toby for beers.  We then walked to Vets memorial looking at restaurants.  Ben and I talked on the phone and we were perfectly on time.  The shoe was the Moth and it was good.  It was about salvation and much of it was sad.  Afterward we went to Chez Mamman for Crepes.  I boarded the N after standing near the stairwell watching Nicole descend through muni to BART.  I fell asleep on the train but didn’t want to.  I walked home and organized the tires and levers for the morning.

On the morning that I wrote this I didn’t get up till late and then walked to the L and realized that I could have taken the express.  Later I got coffee and hopped the BART train around 730.  At PHill I changed my tire at 830 and made it to work by nine.  I sat down and developed some tables for David for when he got back from a meeting.

I noted that we talked and he agreed that I would be mixing GV and PSEP data and he said that all the records should be filled out using rules.  I noted that I needed protocols for the GV to PSEP mix mash-up.  He said that he understood that there would be issues there and I was pleased with this.  I showed him how the output would be a feature data set and he agreed.  I couldn’t get to the queries and data sources through and that was frustrating.

I noted that the entry that I had written had taken a long time to write.  The table design went for a long time.  I had a meeting till 10.  I also spilled coffee on myself.  Later I reenrolled in classes at school and started to fill out paper paperwork.  I went to fill my tire up.

I hid it well

I wrote in pink that my pen had died.  I had texted mom and called Nora about keys.  I wrote that it was nearly 630 when I left.  I drove 680 to 580.  I made good time listening to CD’s.  It slowed at Livermore so I turned on the radio which said there was traffic to 250.  I sat through that.  I was amazed that we hadn’t killed ourselves off yet.

As I drove across the valley I ate at Michoacan in Oakdale and wondered where I would stay.  I settled in at the Sonora Inn because it was new and exciting and Pincrest was full up.  I didn’t want to get to Twain Hart and find no vacancies.

I checked in with a cute redhead and grabbed my things.  They were almost full up.  I put myself away and went out for some fresh air.  I ended up at the Iron Horse.  It is a smoking bar.  The taco by the creek was bumpin’.    I got to the Inn by ten and fell asleep.

I got up at 6 and despite the rain I flew up the hill.  I stopped by the Twain Hart house.  I looked in and was surprised by the differences that I saw.  The drum set in the attic reminded me of the old days.  I got on the road and avoided the cold spots on the road and eventually landed behind a plow.  On the road to the resort there were some sketchy points.

I parked with the employees and then I went to the lodges and renters and waited with coffee.  There were familiar people.  I rented skis and rode to the top and down the back twice.  I met people.  I went to the Way Station and ate.  I went on anther ride and went to the lodge and drank stuff and read the paper.  I met a kid from SHC that was my brother’s age. There was a marketing intern from the mountain; three or five others.

I did a bunch more rides and went to Twain Hart at 345.  I went to Villa D’or.  There was Dave and Woody and the gang.  Dave hung out.  I think he was a dentist.  Chalon was the bartender and I was in love with her and I remembered her from New Year’s Eve 2011-12 at the same place.  I hid it well.  Three golfers came in.

I went to the Motel and changed and then I went to the Eproson.  I thought the pace was a hell hole.  The bar tender and his girl had a tiff and I went to Ed’s.  I met the Smith’s.  Mrs. Smith was 31 that day and Kim the bartender was insisting that she dance on the bar.  This was a recurring theme.  She didn’t and they left eventually.  She asked me a lot of questions.

The morning that I wrote this I woke up smugly satisfied with my hangover.  I went to the Sportsman.  The staff there was different.  The golfers from the night before sat next to me.  I read the Chronicle.  I checked out at 12 and drove to Sonora for gas and then to SF and only had a little trouble to the old cantilever bridge.  I took 9th street  and when I got home I had a bit of a headache.  I called Nicole and we made plans for later.  I did laundry and went to Pizza on Noriega.

Went to Joxer Daly’s

I wrote that on the previous Wednesday I worked most of the day on my evolving statistical approach.  I had been slowly getting into the FET but still needed to understand it.  I also identified the calculator I would use.  Midday I received a call from Eric King who said he had a job for me to do.  I told him I had been rejected twice and he told me not to worry.  He then sent me the description.  I sent Eric a resume and made plans to meet Nicole.

I noted that Andrea had emailed about a party for Meghan but I decided later not to go.  I ate a little bit with the parents and then dad drove me to Taraval.  I went to West Portal and met Nicole for dinner.  Then we went to Joxer Daly’s.  There we looked for a movie to watch and she drove me home.

I wrote that the next day I had a hard time getting up.  Nicole sent me a text message about a play on Saturday.  I spent the rest of the day working on the calculator discussion and concluded that Vassarstats was the one I wanted.  I later talked more with Eric King and I started looking at my statistical approach.  I watched a little bit of a Birkin-Gainsbourge film and went to bed at midnight.

Next day Eric woke me up to prep me for the interview and I worked on the FET problem until David Harrison called me.  The interview went perfect and Eric briefed me on the next steps.  He called me back with terms and I got the packet right away.  I wanted to stop working right then and get food but made plans with Shaun instead.  I took a deep breath and soldiered on.  Later I went to Park Chow and 2 and a half hours later I was getting some air when Shaun found me.  We spent some time at the Shamrock.  I got home late.

The morning of the day that I wrote this I had a hangover and made plans with Nicole.

This needs to be integrated:
Since I needed a posting for 01 20 13 I did a search of my email.  On the 22nd I received two emails from Gordon about jobs.  There were seven emails for the 20th but all were job notices.  On the 18th I received an email concerning the job at the MAOP project.  On the 15th I received an email from Andrea about Meghan moving to the Netherlands.  I am certain that I didn’t go to this party.  I copied this from my notebook on January 23rd and posted it to the blog Month Day.

Jumped the 14

I wrote that the Sunday night before I rode the L Train downtown.  I wrote that I remembered my foot wasn’t in the best condition but it had improved.  I went to Wells and then Patelco.  I then jumped the 14 line and went to Revolution.  My friend was there listening to a Jazz band.  We talked about bikes, Golf and New Years.  At around 1130 I hoped a 48 and transferred to an L.  The walk wasn’t so painful.

I wrote that the Next day I took it easy.  I went through my tables for the survey discussion.  I needed to build a three category version for table X.  Eventually I hit a dead end so I moved on to watching the movie due at Le Vid—premium rush.  I gave up half way.  On the way to Le Vid I realized that this three category table was not useful because graph pad didn’t have any use for that type of comparison.  When I got home I built a mockup of the next four tables and went to bed.

I wrote that the next morning I was up at 8 and was ready to leave for Ukiah at 1030.  Mom and dad both wanted to know when I was leaving.  I drove to Cloverdale in a short time.  When I arrived I went to Schatt’s and then made it to the appointment early.  The set up for the interview was three people: Sue, Lief and Russ.  They each had a few questions.  They were career technical theoretical questions.  They asked what a thematic cadastral was.  What a small and a large scale map.  They asked about representative fractions.  There were personal questions—about who I am and experience.

The ride was uneventful.  I did some stuff at home then and sent a text to mom and drove to West Portal to trade the car with her.  I took the train to Castro and ate at little Chihuahua.  I got a text at Page bar.  Later I had a lot of trouble getting home on the bus.  I noted that later my friend and I chatted about the golf range but we put off going till Friday.

The HiLo

I wrote that I got a text form Katie and finished up with my edit.  I caught various buses and had a taco.  I made a reservation at Bocce and got to Cobb’s exactly on time.  I didn’t know what the show was and that was sort of a gaffe but I got into the swing of things.  The show was great.  I had a couple of drinks and when it was time to settle I collected dollars and paid.  We said bye to Jen and Justin.  There were two others but Katie didn’t really know them.  We went to Visuvio and Dave was there.  Later we went to the HiLo and Christian showed up.  I took the drunk bus home.

Next day I got up late but had time to get to San Rafael to meet Nicole.  My Clipper card worked on GGT.  We had crepes and she told me about beer part with her bud Jen.  We rushed over to the MTC and saw “Waiting for Godot” and I was transfixed.  It was new and interesting.  So much of it is classic and almost predictable but I watched it closely.  Every scene has a certain amount of inevitability about it.

We went to dinner at Sol Food which was good.  I ate too much.  I had the pork and she had the shrimp.  We went to my house and she stayed the night and I got a bunch of stuff done.

In the morning I had to ride and I forgot the notebook.  I wrote notes on papers instead.  I made good time anyway.  I waited for the train listening to Fleetwood Mac.  I went to the safety tailboard.  I edited my notes till “the walk” at 11.  I handed in a loner passkey to Jimmy and a conversation between Brian and Joel.  They were discussing the essentials for a while and I felt inept on account of David’s high profile.  Joel explained that segments change on account of splitting due to class.

I spoke to David for a bit and then used Access for a long while.  I then went through my notes and looked at what goes into the matching process for which David was looking.  I was writing about static points and thought that this was important.  I also thought about what the output would require.  There is a lot of wonder in my writing and I have a lot of headers and columns over what the matching process.  I also went through what I knew.

I left around four and had a flat and saw Karl on the trail.  That was odd.  I made it to PHill and to Momi Toby’s for beers.  We went to the Moth and then afterwards we went to Chez Maman.  I went home on the N and she was on the BART.

Next day I was late to work and worked on tables for David.  He told me that there would be rules and the rules would have to mix the records.  I showed him a set of outputs.  I wanted to get more work done but was frustrated.  We had a long meeting.  Later I had to enroll at CSULB.  I had to fix my tire near the end of that shift.
